About This Spot

Stepping into Spicy House feels like entering a quietly earnest neighborhood retreat where the warmth comes from the kitchen more than from fancy decor. Nestled along the lively stretch of S Mason Road in Katy, this Chinese restaurant invites you to slow down and savor moments shared over deeply satisfying food. The hum of focused conversation mingles with soft clinks of chopsticks and the occasional laughter, crafting an unpretentious atmosphere that feels both familiar and welcoming.

The pace here is comfortably relaxed, yet there’s a gentle energy in the air—as if the kitchen is quietly bustling to bring forward flavors both vibrant and nuanced. While the dining room might quietly echo with the footsteps of a few diners, the earnestness of the staff and the passion behind each dish fill the space with life. It’s a place where the spice of cumin, the softness of steamed dumplings, and the bright tang of sweet and sour fish come together in harmony rather than competition.

What stands out most is the way each plate invites you to linger just a bit longer, stirring conversations and smiles around the table. From the comforting slurp of noodles with a hint of heat to the balanced complexity of hot and sour soup, the flavors hint at home-style cooking elevated by subtle regional twists. Portions are generous—enough to share, enough to take home—inviting visitors to extend their experience beyond the meal itself.

In this quietly earnest space, the interactions with thoughtful, attentive servers and the occasional thoughtful touches—a complimentary wonton chip to start, a fortune cookie to close the meal—make every dining occasion feel like a shared discovery. Spicy House is less about flash and more about the joy found in authentic flavors and ordinary moments made a little warmer by care and spice.

The food was so tasty! We would go back for the dumplings alone! The rice is cooked perfectly. We had the peppered beef, not for those who don't like spice, it was excellent. We will be back again. The wait staff was kind and attentive. The restaurant has oy been open 3 months and it is fantastic.

After reading all the great reviews I couldn't decide on what to get. I decided on the ginger dish and my husband got the lamb curry. It was excellent! We also got the steamed pork dumplings and hot and sour soup. We have leftovers for days! Portions are great. Definitely recommend this place.

4.5 stars: I really liked the good beef stir fry noodle. Stir fry rice cakes were pretty good too. Wonton chip complimentary at the start of meal and fortune cookie at the end is a cute touch. Entree items come with rice. Soup dumplings were ok, not too special so I’d probably skip that next time. Salt and pepper shrimp was ok too, better than the soup dumplings but I wish they cooked the onion more.

I tried the Wild Thai Chili Beef — it was okay. I’m not a fan of cilantro, so I had to pick it off, but I’ll be sure to ask them to leave it out next time. I asked for it less spicy, and unfortunately, it ended up having no spice at all. Next time, I’ll just stick with the original spice level. The Wonton Soup was a pleasant surprise — the broth was light and flavorful, and the three wontons were very good. The Pork Egg Rolls were crispy and generously filled. The Fried Rice really stood out; I usually don’t care for fried rice, but this one was really good. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared.

The food is very good but it’s best experienced dine-in (for freshness especially the fried foods). This is where this place falls a little short. The dining room has an unusual ambiance, think abandoned dance club and when we have gone there’s hardly anyone there. I assume at least part of issue is due to all of the take-out orders. That said, we do love the taste, quality, portions and value here, so we do recommend it.

UPDATE: Tried this restaurant for a second time and it is still serving up amazing food ! I asked for the wild Thai beef to be less spicy and I was quite delicious, I love that they add cilantro and celery to it for extra crunch. The salted pepper shrimp was amazing definitely a must try ! Food was done in 20 minutes for my to-go order. Clean restaurant as well . This place is a must try in Katy!!! I got the pan fried pork dumplings , spicy fried chicken bites/w fried rice , Dan Dan Noodles and the cream cheese crab ragoons. The dumplings were my favorite part especially with the side of chili oil that they gave. The nice crunch matched with the soy sauce gave a really flavorful bite. I would definitely get these again. I wasn't a huge fan of the Spicy fried chicken bites. It had a lot of texture but was simply too hot for my liking. The Dan Dan noodles had little meat with it and it was 85% noodles so that was disappointing. The Ragoons were good , tasted like a more elevated version of Panda Express which is expected. Definietly a must try resturant
